So now, I suppose we will also ban anyone with "Michael", "Bird", or "Troll" anywhere in their name. The word Troll has 11 different meanings in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary - 12 if you include the meaning "to purposefully cause trouble on an Internet site". That's not even a meaning given in the dictionary. I can understand if the user in question had been trolling, as it is assumed that any troll with the word "Troll" in his/her name is a reincarnation of User:Troll, but this user seems to be legitimate. The fact that Trolls of Navarone (which seems to have nothing to do with Internet trolls, anyhow) has "Trolls" in his name doesn't justify an immediate, unreasonable ban. ugen64 20:51, Apr 9, 2004 (UTC)
- Who wants to ban me? Telgur the Trollslayer 22:26, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Since you are a self-professed sock-puppet and obvious troll having a fictional conversation with yourself, I would like to ban you. - Tεxτurε 22:28, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Besmudge me not with thine lies, 'tis naught that connects mineself with yonder hellspawn but its putrid green blood on my vorpal blade! Telgur the Trollslayer 22:40, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- But the REAL question is, does your vorpal blade go snicker-snack? --Dante Alighieri | Talk 23:03, Apr 9, 2004 (UTC)
- Some fine knight I'd be, galumphing around hunting all manner of Snark and Troll, were it not so. Telgur the Trollslayer 23:17, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Erm, Texture - you're wrong - I have nothing to do with this sock-puppet. Is there any way to prove this? The Trolls of Navarone 22:31, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Sure, say and believe what you like. As a gesture of good faith I wanted to know how I could prove to you that I am not this user. The Trolls of Navarone 22:42, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- The established procedure is:
- Tell us your real name, post a photo of yourself, give us your email address, etc. Basically, tell us about yourself. While this doesn't prove that Telgur is not a sockpuppet of yours, it does prove that you're not a sock puppet of anyone else.
- Log out, edit your user page, then log in again and explicitly claim that edit.
- Telgur either does the same (best), or else a dev gets involved to confirm your claim.
- Hope that helps. It's not ironclad proof, but it's normally sufficient for most purposes. Martin 23:54, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Well, there's my IP (on my talk page), but I don't see how that helps. Thanks. The Trolls of Navarone 00:03, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- And the other bit. Martin 01:00, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Well, without any information about the other account, I don't see how that would help, and certainly do not want to post personal information on a public webpage. The Trolls of Navarone 06:20, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Aha, MK has already dealt with this. Of course, Texture's unfounded accusations and mudslinging will have no consequences. I wonder what would happen were another user to behave similarly to a member of the cabal? The Trolls of Navarone 06:27, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Not a request for review of yadayadayada. Martin 18:57, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Guess whose sockpuppet I am. Telgur the Trollslayer
- Whose? The Trolls of Navarone 21:03, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Ha! I said "guess", not "ask whose", ye reeking demonspawn! Telgur the Trollslayer 21:50, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Erm.. Hephastos? Angela? I don't know.. The Trolls of Navarone 21:51, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Now Tεx thinks I'm you, can you believe that?! Telgur the Trollslayer 22:38, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- As long as we're discussing on the user page, I'll weigh in and say yes. - Fennec 23:05, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- <Sarcasm>Funny. </Sarcasm> How can I demonstrate that this user is pretending to be me? The Trolls of Navarone 23:09, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- You accuse me of pretense, yet not a thing have I done to create the impression that I might be you, nor would I ever. Telgur the Trollslayer 23:19, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Thou shouldst quit this demesne by and by an ye be a helpmate to the cabal. Trolls take not kindly to those such as thee. Fair warnings to ye, fair knight of the vorpal blade! --Dante Alighieri | Talk 23:57, Apr 9, 2004 (UTC)

I can't believe noone guessed it, even after I accidentally revealed myself by forgetting to switch accounts. Anyway, I've now gone ahead and unmasked myself, lest the Trolls of Navarone have a heart attack or something. Telgur the Trollslayer 00:12, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
The Reckoning[edit]
Assuming it is true that you created the sock puppet account, I wanted to tell you that I think such behavior is unprofessional. Honestly, I thought you must be a high school kid, but I see that above you discuss teaching your kids, and your contributions look good, and you seem to be a serious and responsible person. So please, in the future, do me a favor... don't engage in games to make your points, just state them forthrightly. If someone was making an absurd claim about the word 'troll' in usernames, just state your opposition, explain why, and you'll be listened to of course. Jimbo Wales 03:04, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Thus ends the tale of the brave but foolish knight, Telgur the Trollslayer—having displeased our Lord and King he meets his fate and is laid to rest. Mkweise 20:27, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
